Luca School of Arts asked its students to create an app for the course Cross Media. In this course, students can decide which modules they think are interesting and want to enrol. When I designed this app I focused on its main function; make this process of enrolling as clear and easy as possible; to which I added a playful element. The app contains a calendar with a colour system – it shows if the module is full, already started or that you are enrolled – you get clear information about each individual module, and a search engine with a filter simplifies the search to the most interesting module. An undistracting game element motivates the student to earn as many stars (credits) as possible.

First version
At first I made a version of the app in pixel art, because this suited the game element. Soon it became clear that this style was too dense for a clear and user-friendly app, so I changed the style completely. Still, I think this stage of my design process was important for my further development and shows an interesting style I never used before. The teacher of the course likes his avatar so much that he uses it for school mail and his facebook account.
